24. Posted October 16, 2019. Hey all, looking to get my Gibson SG set up with heavier string gauges. The .9s on it right now are way too slinky especially with the Gibson short scale. I play mostly in standard, but I like to mess around with random alternate tunings and I also like a big thick sound so I know I want a higher gauge.

Mar 16, 2009 · Bottomline: If you know what you should about musical instrument wood, you know that "AAA" has tight, straight, consistant grain and color, and when cut on the quarter it is well figured; "A" is more or less what a wood worker would call "clear grade" - clear of knots and more or less straight grain, after that, "A" is a crap shoot.

I've been lurking around these forums since I picked up my limited '66 G-400 close to 2 years ago now and I still love it, especially after a proper setup. One thing I've always wondered about though is the witch hat knobs versus the bell shaped reflector type.
