May 29, 2011 · Fake, for all the reasons listed by the other writers. The only split-parallelogram ES 335 headstocks were on the ES 335-12 back in the late 60s. Put a real ES 335 side-by-side, and the differences will be obvious. This sort of looks like a hybrid 335/345/355 fake. Not even close, but you have to know what you're looking at.

Sep 9, 2024 · My 335 has better upper fret access than my Les Pauls. Yes, it has more air to the tone compared to a Les Paul. It also has better controlled feedback with gain. It is good for all styles of music and is often lighter than a Les Paul. Modern Gibson 335's are excellent guitars. I own one Gibson and one IBG Epiphone. Both are fun guitars.

Feb 23, 2011 · In any case, get the serial number before deciding what year it is. Go to Charlie Gelber's excellent website, es-335.org, for some of the best info out there on vintage ES 335s. My own Gibsons include a 1948 J-45 (owned since 1966), a '68 ES 335-12, and an '09 Nashville '59 ES 335 Historic. Good luck.

Jul 26, 2018 · This is it.^ Memphis has made leaps and bounds since 2012. They have really stepped up their game, and the guitars show it. I, as well, have a 2016 '63 335 RI, and it is a wonderful guitar. There are no "good" or "bad" years, just guitars. Even in the year of a plague, you can find gems out there. ymmv

Now, Heritages seem to me to be expensive close-copies of Gibsons with neither the brand nor, because of the abominable Heritage headstock, the looks.

Aug 18, 2022 · Norlin-era guitars aren't bad, it's just that many folks didn't like the spec and manufacturing changes made by that company. Those guitars have also gone up in price the last several years, so I doubt you'd find an ES 335 from 1980 in that price range. For $2-3k look at Memphis-era (~2001-2019) studios and satin-finished guitars.
