Auto mode failed to play discreet center, surrounds and subwoofer when given a 5.1 source. Forced Dolby 5.1 worked properly as expected (all discreet channels and subwoofer).

Sep 23, 2020 · With tvOS 13, i had to set the Apple TV to down mix to Dolby Digital 5.1 to get 5.1 surround sound as I cannot pass through 5.1 LPCM over ARC with my setup. Now, the auto setting correctly sends a Dolby digital 5.1 signal over ARC on Apple TV+, Amazon Prime video and Netflix until the recent app update broke surround sound.

When playing content (tested on Netflix and Amazon Prime apps) that only has stereo audio, as long as this is the first content played after the app is started, the audio plays correctly and I can see in the Sonos app 'Stereo PCM'.
