Heavy storms are now reaching the East Coast as a nor'easter heads toward New England ahead of the holiday travel period for Memorial Day weekend.
At least 31 million people are at risk for severe storms from central Texas to Iowa on Monday, with hazards including large hail, damaging winds and several possibly strong tornadoes.
Severe weather swept north Alabama Tuesday night, downing trees and powerlines and sparking tornado warnings, the National Weather Service reported. The Albertville Public Library was on fire, according to social media posts. It was not immediately clear late Tuesday night if the fire was due to the storms. The fire was later extinguished.

DENVER ( KDVR) — A tornado touched down in northeastern Colorado on Friday evening. The National Weather Service said that weather spotters confirmed that the tornado 5:11 p.m. near Merino, 11 miles southwest of Sterling. The NWS said the tornado was moving southeast at 20 mph.
