Wearing the new Club World Cup winners badge, Chelsea was held to a scoreless draw at home against Crystal Palace, looking less than lively in their opening match. West Ham, which has spent more than $90 million to upgrade the team this summer, was crushed 3-0 by newly-promoted Sunderland.

Chelsea overcame Cole Palmer's injury in the warm-up and an early goal to thrash West Ham at the London Stadium. Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah were on target as the Blues claimed their first win of the season - and made it successive losses for their hosts in a largely one-sided derby.
