Hours after returning to the White House, President Donald Trump made a symbolic mark on the future of artificial intelligence by repealing former President Joe Biden’s guardrails for the fast-developing technology.

Donald Trump axed all that yesterday as he signed a flurry of new executive orders. One of his first actions was to rescind 78 Biden-era executive actions, including Executive Order 14110 on “Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.”

Biden's order required developers of AI systems that pose risks to U.S. national security, the economy, public health or safety to share the results of safety tests with the U.S. government, in line with the Defense Production Act, before they were released to the public.

Donald Trump said on Monday he will revoke nearly 80 executive actions of the administration of former Democratic President Joe Biden, with the Republican U.S. president adding he will also implement an immediate freeze on new regulations and hiring.

One of the president's executive orders rescinded an ethics rule that would have restricted Joe Biden's appointees from certain lucrative private-sector jobs.

Much of Biden's order set in motion a sprint across government agencies to study AI's impact on everything from cybersecurity risks to its effects on education, workplaces, and public benefits.
