Cruzado’s transformative term began in 2010, three years after a murder, drug deals and academic indifference landed MSU in Sports Illustrated under the headline “Trouble In Paradise”.

The band played “Preciosa,” an anthem from Cruzado’s native Puerto Rico, in honor of her impending retirement. As a surprise, the band formed the word “Waded” on the field.

Friday wasn’t just about Cruzado — it was about the 1,888 undergraduate students, 401 graduate students and 176 Gallatin College associates or certificate students earning their degrees.

This university’s strong position has been a result of a team effort, and that involves the community to the greatest extent.
