The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a tepid start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,990 level, a discount of nearly 2 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The BSE Sensex lost 450.94 points or 0.57% to close at 78,248.13. Likewise, Nifty slipped 168.50 points or 0.71% to 23,644.90.

On Sensex, Adani Ports, Zomato, UltraTech Cement, and Axis Bank emerged among the gainers. On the other hand, HCL Tech, Infosys, M&M, Maruti, and Titan remained among the laggards for the day
