Ethnic organizations in parts of India’s violence-wracked northeastern state have shut schools and businesses to protest the killings of 10 people by paramilitary soldiers.

Authorities in India's north-eastern Manipur state imposed an indefinite curfew after at least 10 militants were shot dead in clashes with government forces. The incident happened after an attack on a police station in the region gripped by ethnic tension.

Imphal: In a major breakthrough, 10 militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Manipur's Jiribam district on Monday. Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were also reportedly injured in the gunfight at Jakurador Karong in the Borobekra sub-division.

Bodies of two elderly men were recovered on Tuesday morning in Manipur's Jiribam district where a gunfight between suspected militants and security forces broke out a day before, police said.
