Cincinnati made two free throws to trim the Utah lead to 66-64 with 50 seconds left. Madsen missed a 3-pointer on Utah’s ensuing possession, but in the battle for the rebound, Utah’s Zach Keller was able to keep a Cincinnati player from retaining the board, and the ball went out of bounds off the Bearcats.
Jizzle James (18 points, three rebounds) was one of two Bearcats in double figures. Utah had three of those performances on the other side, including a matching 18 from former Bearcat Gabe Madsen (18 points, four assists). Utah lost the turnover battle 19-6 but handed Cincinnati their seventh consecutive loss on the glass to even that out (41-23).
Utah’s matchup with Cincinnati at the Huntsman Center late Tuesday night was filled with big second-half runs, lots of offense in the first half and plenty of physical defense in the second half. In the end, the Utes won a grind-it-out game, 69-66.
