The City of Destiny will host one of nine “fan zones” around the state next summer: interactive events and experiences complementing six World Cup matches at Seattle’s Lumen Field in June and July 2026. Attendees can enjoy live matches on giant screens, entertainment from local musicians and brush up their soccer skills through on-site clinics.

Yakima was selected as a site for a 2026 FIFA World Cup fan zone, officials announced at a news conference in Seattle this week. Mayor Patricia Byers shared the news at Tuesday’s city council study session and called it exciting for Yakima.

The organizing committee wants residents outside of Seattle and King County to be able to be part of the historic event.
