Hurricane Erin nears Bahamas
Digest more
Major Hurricane Erin is a very large hurricane passing just east of the Turks and Caicos and southeast Bahamas Monday and Tuesday. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Turks and Caicos and parts of the Bahamas.
After weakening a bit, Erin continues to strengthen and grow. A tropical wave could become the next depression or storm.
Erin reintensified to a Category 4 storm with 130 mph (215 kph) maximum sustained winds early Monday and moved closer to the Southeast Bahamas, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
Erin is not only an intense hurricane, but it has also become a large storm in the Atlantic. While it won't landfall in the U.S., its large size will be a surf danger along the East Coast. Here's the latest.
