California Gov. Gavin Newsom used his Democratic supermajority to push a new congressional map that favors Democrats in an effort to nullify the expected new map from Texas.
The vote marked a return volley by Democrats in a national redistricting war the day after Texas approved its new map.
The California governor is using President Trump's notable social media playbook and turning it on Republicans.
Early supporters for the redistricting campaign include Los Angeles businessman Bill Bloomfield, who gave $1 million to Newsom's Ballot Measure Committee, as well as Gloria Page, the mother of Google co-founder Larry Page, who contributed $134,000 to the committee, according to a Thursday afternoon filing .
