Shell casings from a firearm obtained by the Springfield Police Department have been connected to two shootings in August 2024, authorities allege.

The Springfield Police Department said that the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) received information that a 13-year-old boy who had an active arrest warrant had an illegal firearm on Thursday afternoon. Detectives began surveillance in the area of Lombard Street and saw the suspect with two other people on the 600 block of Main Street.
