More than half the people ICE has detained under President Trump have no criminal conviction, while roughly 8% were convicted of violent crimes, an analysis of new data by CBS News finds. ICE is holding around 59,000 detainees in facilities across the country, likely setting a record high, according to internal government data obtained by CBS News.

During the Trump administration’s first 100 days, ICE reports arresting 66,463 undocumented immigrants and removing 65,682.

Immigration arrests falter in July after a big push for mass deportations in June. Activists in sanctuary jurisdictions hope their resistance plays a role.

What started as a discussion on the various arms of immigration enforcement nearly spiraled into a shouting match Thursday as advocates and some elected officials pleaded with a federal agent to “be kinder” when interacting with the immigration community.

Congress has approved a $170 billion immigration enforcement package that critics say will increase deportations, funnel billions into private detention, and sideline due process protections, marking one of the largest expansions of immigration enforcement in U.

The city's policies "thwart federal immigration enforcement to the detriment of the interests of the United States," U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said.
