A judge has dismissed the racketeering and corruption charges against New Jersey power broker George Norcross, stemming from his efforts to acquire valuable waterfront property.

A New Jersey judge dismissed the state’s racketeering case against the south New Jersey Democratic power broker on Wednesday morning.

George Norcross III had been accused of unlawfully obtaining property along the waterfront in Camden, N.J., and fraudulently collecting millions of dollars in tax breaks.

Norcross has had huge sway in South Jersey and state politics since the early 1990s and retained his power and prestige despite the indictment.

Prosecutors alleged George Norcross and his allies were guilty of extortion and more, but a judge said their actions did not violate the law.

Superior Court Judge Peter Warshaw granted Norcross’ and other defendants’ motion to dismiss a state grand jury’s indictment on racketeering charges brough by Attorney General Matt Platkin.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said he "strongly" disagreed with the judge's decision and would be filing an immediate appeal in the Norcross case.
