The scuffling New York Mets have been in desperate need of a starter other than David Peterson to pitch deep into games.

The Atlanta Braves announced that third baseman Austin Riley will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after undergoing core injury surgery.

Riley was placed on the injured list earlier this month for the second time in two months with a strained lower abdominal muscle. The two-time All-Star finishes the season hitting .260 with 16 homers and 54 RBIs in 102 games.

The typical recovery period for Riley's procedure is six weeks, but there are only five weeks left in the season.
