Manatee County commissioners have agreed to further discussion on Commissioner Amanda Ballard's bid to remove fluoride from the county's drinking water. Manatee County officials will consider putting a stop to the county’s decades-long practice of adding fluoride to drinking water.

Manatee County commissioners will discuss guidance from Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo that advises against the use of fluoride in water.

If commissioners vote to follow the guidance of Florida's surgeon general, Manatee would join more than a dozen other local governments to end the practice, including Niceville in the Panhandle.
