The Eagles acquired John Metchie III in a trade with the Texans, but the 49ers were also trying to make a move for the former Alabama star.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pellissero, the Texans are re-acquiring their 2026 fifth-round pick and tight end Harrison Bryant from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Surprisingly enough, that 2026 sixth-round pick was also acquired in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade.

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly attempted to bolster their wide receiver depth by trading for John Metchie III, but the Philadelphia Eagles landed him instead.
