Former Minnesota State Senator and Fastenal founder Bob Kierlin died at the age of 85 on Monday. Kierlin was born in Winona and attended the University of Minnesota.  In 1967, Kierlin founded Fastenal in Winona which is where the headquarters are still located to this day.

Kierlin died Monday in Winona, according to his obituary. A former Minnesota state senator, he was best known for founding Winona-based hardware manufacturer Fastenal Company in 1967. It would go on to become a Fortune 500 company after going public in 1987.
