With Tuesday's First Alert Weather Day​, and temperatures expected to drop into the single digits Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the City and County of Denver activated its Cold Weather Shelter plan.

Manatee County’s Emergency Management Division said it coordinated with the Salvation Army to open cold weather shelter space at their 1204 14th St. West location in Bradenton this week. Doors open at 6 p.m. each night through Thursday. County officials said this space is in addition to the daily sheltering program.

Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties are opening their cold weather shelters on Monday and Tuesday.

For the week of Jan. 5-11, the cold weather shelter is located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 705 Wilson Ave., Tullahoma, 37388 Starting Jan. 12-18, the shelter will be at Cedar Lane Church of Christ, 1200 Cedar Lane, Tullahoma, 37388 Jan. 19-25: First Presbyterian Church, 204 E. Grundy St., Tullahoma, 37388

Volusia will open a shelter Monday through Wednesday, too. Temperatures are expected to dive into the mid-30s.

Pinellas County opens its cold night shelters when the “feels like” temperature drops below 40 degrees anytime from Nov. 15 through March 15. Any rider denied a free fare to a cold night shelter should ask the driver to contact PSTA dispatch.

For many in Denver and eastern Colorado, the coldest low temperatures in nearly a year are on the way. The forecasted low for Denver should drop close to 7 degrees.

Clouds will continue to clear out Tuesday night. This will aid in a rapid drop in temperatures down to the single digits, according to FOX31 Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser.

In lieu of another frigid week in Denver, the housing department has extended its activation of three emergency shelters for homeless people seeking warmth until next week.
