Jarren Duran is among the key players for the Red Sox with 31 doubles, 12 triples and 12 home runs this season. For the Marlins Kyle Stowers leads the way with 25 home runs for the season, but he’s failed to hit any in his last seven games.
9) Abraham Toro put the Red Sox ahead 3-1 in the seventh with an RBI sac fly after Abreu and Romy Gonzalez hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Gonzalez’s single deflected off Junk’s foot into right field.
BOSTON — Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer said Sunday that he’ll have season-ending surgery on his right wrist. The 22-year-old Mayer injured the wrist in late July, got an injection to try and come back, but decided to have surgery. He said he has a tear that hadn't improved with the anti-inflammatory injection.
Manager Alex Cora revealed Sunday that Mayer will miss the rest of the season with a wrist injury that requires surgery, per Christopher Smith of Mass Live. It is expected to be a three-month recovery period, meaning he will at least be available for spring training ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The Red Sox may see some relief help arriving soon in the form of Justin Slaten, who is ramping up after being out since June 1 with a shoulder/neck injury. He threw his third bullpen on Friday and is scheduled for a live batting practice session on Monday. If all goes well, his next step would be another live BP or a rehab assignment.
